Steel coils are loaded at the Port of Toledo shipping to the Port of Savonna Italy.
Southern Europe: Trade with Southern Europe and the Mediterranean has been brisk over the past several years. Ports in these regions have traditionally been destinations for Toledo grain. More recently steel coil and iron ore have shipped from Toledo to Italy.
In November 2008, HWY H2O signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) with the Ligurian Ports in Northern Italy. The MOC established a cooperative partnership between U.S. and Canadian ports in the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway System and the Ligurian Ports, which includes the Port of Genoa, La Spezia, and Savona. The forms of cooperation will include discussions for expanding marine transport and trade; exchanging data and information; and joint communications on ways to improve port management and economic development.
