The Seaports of Asia

Iron ore is cross docked between vessels at the Port of Toledo for export to China.

The Port of Toledo has been expanding trade with Asia in recent years and has developed www.toledoseaport.cn to promote trade growth in China. Bulk material such as magnesite is imported from China while iron ore pellets are exported to China. A recent project cargo transformer shipment from Korea was one of the heaviest pieces ever to come to the Port of Toledo at 480 tons.

In April 2006 an implementation plan was signed between the Port Authority of Shanghai, People’s Republic of China and HWY H2O in Shanghai, China. The implementation plan desires to enhance cooperation in finding ways to improve and market the marine transportation mode, to improve marine transportation systems and technology, and to promote mutual benefits to the Participants.

Our marine terminals provide direct access for shipping bulk, break bulk, project cargo and containers to the center of North America via the Great Lakes / Saint Lawrence Seaway System.

The Port of Toledo has direct access to four railroads and two transcontinental highways.

Forty-three percent of the U.S. industrial market and forty-seven percent of the Canadian market are located within a one day drive (500 mile radius) of Toledo.
